 The name "Amboseli" comes from a Maasai word meaning "salty dust".Amboseli National Park is a renowned wildlife conservation area located in southern Kenya, near the border with Tanzania.The Maasai people inhabit the region surrounding Amboseli National Park.Visitors have the opportunity to learn about Maasai culture, visit local communities, and purchase traditional Maasai handicrafts.The park is famous for its stunning landscapes, abundant wildlife, and iconic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in It's a home to a wide variety of African wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, hyenas, and numerous bird species. Elephants are especially prominent in the park, and it's one of the best places in Africa to observe these majestic creatures.


Itinerary

Day 1: Explore the Wildlife

Morning:

  1. Arrival: Start your day early by arriving at Amboseli National Park. The park is approximately a 4-hour drive from Nairobi, so consider leaving the city at dawn to maximize your time in the park.

  2. Check-in: Check in to your chosen accommodation inside or near the park. There are various lodges and camps to suit different budgets.

  3. Game Drive: Begin your wildlife adventure with a morning game drive. The cooler temperatures in the morning make it an excellent time to spot animals. Keep an eye out for elephants, lions, cheetahs, giraffes, and a variety of birds.

Lunch:

  1. Picnic Lunch: Most lodges and camps offer packed lunches for game drives. Enjoy a picnic lunch at a scenic spot within the park while observing wildlife.

Afternoon:

  1. Visit Observation Hill: After lunch, head to Observation Hill. This elevated viewpoint provides panoramic views of the park, Mount Kilimanjaro, and the swamps below. It's a great spot for photography.

  2. Explore the Swamps: Amboseli is known for its seasonal swamps, which attract a lot of wildlife, particularly elephants and waterbirds. Spend some time near the swamps, watching the animals.

Evening:

  1. Return to Lodge: Head back to your accommodation for relaxation and dinner.

  2. Cultural Experience: Some lodges offer Maasai cultural experiences in the evening, including traditional dances and storytelling. Check with your lodge to see if they offer this.

Day 2: More Wildlife and Departure

Morning:

  1. Early Game Drive: Start your second day with another early morning game drive to catch more wildlife activity.

  2. Breakfast: Return to your lodge for a hearty breakfast.
